Parents could be creating Young Addicts...

    in General Discussions

How many Parents keep their kids busy with video games? Are Parents overusing these distracting technique and creating video game addicts?

How much time should kids spend on video games? Should kids be allowed to play video games on weekdays? #videogame #Parenting #addiction

Video game time should be moderated by Parents and should not be used excessively to the detriment of their children's welfare

The comment below was added to my chat by a contact. Having restrictions in place I also believe is a necessity.

............Video games can be addicting if no restriction is in place. There are lots of things kids can keep themselves busy with. Educative and creative activities helps a lot. A few hours of video game time on a weekend could be used as a reward for kids that worked hard and accomplished their task during the weekdays

I don't think children should be allowed to play video games during weekdays. In our home, our children are not allowed to watch TV or play video games during weekdays. They only do this on the weekends. This rule has been in practice in our home for over 5 years and our children are used to it and they respect it. Excessive video games can also have negative effects on child development.

I have tried to enforce the no video games on weekdays rule so many times with my kids but I keep breaking the rules when I need to get something done and need to have them out of the way. I know a lot of people go through the same issue. Some fun educative ways to keep them busy and reduce the screen time that could cause excessive strain to the eyes definitely will be a better option.

Yes, finding better educational alternatives and being consistent when creating the rules will be very helpful.
