Our
MISSION

My African American World has been created to raise awareness through education and provide support for individuals living with sickle cell disease. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), sickle cell disease is an inherited form of red blood cell disorder in which the hemoglobin is abnormal and this causes the red blood cell to become hard and sticky and can clog the flow of blood. This causes a lot of pain and can lead to health complications that can become severe like acute chest syndrome and stroke.

Our mission is to raise awareness, provide education, and advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease. We strive to advance, promote, support and encourage scientific research into finding a cure for sickle cell disease. Through advocacy, collaboration, community engagement and partnerships we aim to foster a world where the challenges of sickle cell disease are understood, addressed and eradicated.
