I was born into a culture where a mother that has only female children is not considered enough.

She is not considered worthy because she does not have a male offspring to carry on the family name. A lot of women have been chastised & bullied by their husbands & family members for this reason.

This culture still persists in some societies and women are still being harassed for not having a male offspring. A lot of men have resulted to polygamy in an effort to have a male child. Some women also in an effort to have a male child have resulted to or pressured into having numerous children even at the detriment of their health.

Women don’t have control over the gender of their children and should be treated with love and respect regardless of the sex of their children.

Women have been chastised for a lot of things which they have no control over like infertility & miscarriages amongst others.

This Mother’s Day. I want to give a big shout out to all women. A huge shoutout to women who kept going regardless of the difficulties around them. A big shoutout to men who stood by their wives regardless of pressure from family members to disrespect their wives for not having male children.

I want to give a shoutout to my Mum who was blessed with 4 beautiful daughters. She sacrificed & selflessly took care of I & my sisters amidst all of the cultural dilemmas which I call barbaric.

Taking care of children while living with a life threatening illness can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Thunderous shoutout to Mothers battling Sickle Cell Disease and/or other health difficulties.

To all mothers of female children who have been disrespected & bullied for not having a male child; Let me say to you today that you are enough.

To all amazing & selfless Mothers out there, I want to tell you that you are enough, you are worthy and you are beautiful.

Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful Mum & sisters & all amazing Mothers out there! Cheers to being strong, confident & independent 🍾🥂✨💫
